Lower Deschutes River | Guided Float Trip - Full Day
The Lower Deschutes River Float Trip which begins at the Rainbow Bridge of the Warm Springs Tribal Reservation and ends at Trout Creek (approx. 10 river miles) is our most popular full day trip (approx. 8 hours) for targeting our famous Deschutes Redside Trout.
We will meet you at Fin & Fire Fly Shop at 7 am. Coffee will be ready and if needed you will be outfitted with waders and boots. Our shop is well-stocked and you can pick up any last-minute items. After getting outfitted, we will drive, in separate vehicles to the Safeway parking lot in Madras where you will leave your vehicle. Guests will ride with the guide to the boat launch at Warm Springs, total drive time is about 45 minutes from our shop. After launching our drift boat at Warm Springs we will float and fish our way down the scenic Deschutes River. Your guide will work with you, helping you read the water properly as well as put you into some of our favorite spots. In these prime locations we will use a dry fly or nymphing tactics in an attempt to fool the beautiful Deschutes Redside trout. Although we use our comfortable and spacious drift boats to access the river, you will be fishing from shore, as by law, we cannot fish from boats on the Deschutes, so be prepared for some walking.

Boaters Pass and Warm Spring Tribal License for each angler is included in the cost of the trip.
All anglers will need to purchase an Oregon Fishing License.
If you do not have an Oregon Fishing License. Please purchase them at this online site prior to your arrival.

Single Day Guide trips can be cancelled 30 or more days prior to your trip for a refund minus a 5% cancellation fee. Cancellations within 30 days of the trip date will forfeit 100% of the trip cost. Multi-Day guide trips are non-refundable. If Fin & Fire decides to cancel the trip to due adverse conditions, the customer may request a full refund.

Hi, we don’t really have any fly fishing gear and we know it’s pretty expensive to buy. Do you have any rental gear?
We provide high-quality Simms Waders and Boots as well as Premium Rods & Reels, Flies and Tackle at no extra cost on all Fin & Fire guided trips. We are a specialty fly-shop and well-equipped to make your time on the water as comfortable and productive as possible.
Do we need to bring a cooler and food on the trip?
You do not need a cooler. Don't forget to pack a lunch and bring your favorite beverage. We will have some room in the cooler. All meals are provided on the Multi-Day trips by our skilled camp host.
Will we need a fishing license?
Yes. All anglers over the age of 11 must have a valid Oregon Fishing License. Licenses can be purchased from a few local retailers such as Fred Meyer. Please acquire your license before the trip and do not expect that you will be able to get one the day of the trip. You may also purchase a license online directly from ODFW: https://odfw.huntfishoregon.com/login
Should I tip the guide?
Guide gratuities are not included in the price of your trip and are highly suggested. Our guides work very hard under harsh conditions and if they meet or exceed your expectations please reward them appropriately. As a general rule of thumb, you can follow the same guidelines as restaurant tipping based on the cost of the trip.
What type of clothing should I wear?
Dress for both the coldest and hottest weather that you may experience. Your guide can give you detailed list of what to wear but some general tips are to bring sunglasses, a hat, long sleeve breathable shirt that protects you from the sun, breathable pants (not cotton) that work well with the waders, wool socks and sunscreen. Many of our trips are held on hot days and exposure to the sun will be high. If your trip has an early start time, bring an extra layer that you can shed when it warms up. If rain or cold weather is expected on the date of your trip we recommend fleece layering and a waterproof shell.
We don’t really see a trip that fits with our schedule. Are there any other options?
We are more than happy to work with you on customizing your trip to fit your needs. Need to start late or get off the water early? Large group size? Angler with limited mobility? Our Deschutes full day float trip starts about 7am. We will meet you at Fin & Fire Fly Shop. Although we use our comfortable and spacious drift boats to access the river, you will be doing all your fishing from shore as we cannot fish from boats on the Deschutes.
At about the midpoint in the day your guide pull into a scenic spot to take a break and allow you to recharge your batteries and get ready for the second part of your fishing day. You will now be in the rhythm of the Deschutes and placing your flies exactly where they need to be to fool one of the great Deschutes trout.
About 4pm will work towards the Trout Creek boat ramp where our truck and boat trailer will be waiting for you to take you back to your vehicle in Madras.

It was my girlfriend's and i first time fly fishing and it was the greatest! Our guide was patient with us and taught us lots of tricks and tips. I asked lots of questions just about the hobby how to cost your whole setup, different lure rigs, rod and reel set ups, and how to choose your flys. He educated us about the river and the natural surroundings. My girlfriend and i had the greatest time already starting to plan another trip.
Got this for my husband and friend from NZ. Sean was amazing and worked really hard to get into fish! they had a great time.

First time on the Deschutes for me, after 41 years of fishing Alaska waters. Beautiful river through the canyon! The salmon fly hatch was on, but trout were particularly fussy on surface. Our guide Paul is one of the finest in the industry and got us on the tug, but mostly on the dropper. It was a great day of trying Deschutes angler tactics. We all need to support clan waters, best habitats and healthy fish regardless of the reigning Administration.

First off, huge shout to Brandon for an awesome day. I'm a total novice when it comes to fishing had never fly fished before, but I wanted to learn. Fin & Fire helped my family out when they called about a Lower Deschutes trip for me as a birthday present. Brandon was my guide that day and was super knowledgeable and very patient. I didn't feel rushed at all and he walked through me everything from casting, reading the water, when to use each fly and why, fish behavior, etc. Ended up being a pretty active day with stonflies all around and I hooked a beautiful Redside for the first time. This was easily my biggest catch I've ever had. I can already tell this will become a new hobby of mine. 10/10 recommend Fin and Fire.

I booked a trip primarily for my youngest son and oldest grandson , I wanted to give them a different perspective on fly fishing and techniques. I fish often and just chilled fished some and let the guide do his thing . Dylan did a great job with patients and teaching various techniques as we floated with a stop and go fishing exsperience from warm springs to trout creek . A great day overall , I’d highly recommend Fin and Fire , From there beautiful shop to there guides ! I’m a seasoned fisherman and was impressed with the knowledge taught as I observed often as we did our day . Mark .
Our guide was super knowledgeable and put us on some good fish. It was a great experience learning from our guide as me and my guest were both new to fly fishing. We were taught where to look for fish, techniques on how to cast, how to hook and fight the fish and so much more. We both caught a fish at the first spot and many more throughout the day. I would highly recommend this guide service.
Fin and Fire is the best! Folks in the store are helpful and experienced, just great people who have the patience to deal with amateurs like myself. I've taken single hand spey lessons from the owner and he really helped me be able to fish in some really tight areas that I wouldn't have been able to in the the past. I recently did a guided trip on the Deschutes through Fin and Fire during the Salmonfly hatch and had a great time! My guide, Dillon was awesome, he knew the best spots and helped with a few pointers as well. Good prices and friendly, knowledgeable people!

I saw my review from last year on the lower deschutes, in may, we mentioned how great the guide was, but forgot to mention his name , sorry Dylan, I just booked another float with 2 of my friends , for may of 2022, and requested Dylan as our guide, looking forward to another great day of fishing.
My wife and I had a great time. Dillon our guide was awesome and we learned a lot from him. When we come back to visit our daughter we will definitely be taking another trip on the river.

My son and I were blessed to experience the Lower Deschutes Full day float with our guide Sean. Though we were dealing with cold front conditions that made for challenging fishing we managed to hook up with a mix of whitefish and rainbows. This included my son’s first ever fish on a fly rod! More importantly we both learned a great deal about reading water and “nymphing” under Sean’s guidance. He is a great teacher and both of us left the experience significantly improved in our casting and mending. I asked a ton of questions and he was patient to answer all of them thoroughly. Without a doubt the scenery and water is fantastic and our guide was an expert both in handling the drift boat and in that section of water! I would also have to say that the staff in the store both in the trip booking (we traveled from AZ) and in providing both rental equipment and local expertise for our unguided fishing times were exceptional. Fin & Fire went above and beyond in their customer service. I would definitely book a trip with them again and would highly recommend Sean to others regardless of experience level.
Beautiful float through the high desert lava environment. Salmon flies were present but the fish we caught were on small nymph droppers below a chubby. No takes on the latter. We had a fun day.
My friend Tsukiji, from Tokyo, and I spent a day on the Lower Deschutes from Warm Springs to Trout Creek with Dave Hogan. It was thoroughly enjoyable with Tsukiji catching a four pound rainbow along with a dozen more over 14 inches. Dave is a great guide and just a pleasure to spend time with. Tsukiji was visiting and fishing for a week and found the Deschutes to be a unique fishery with spectacular scenery. Thank you Dave for making this trip the highlight of his visit.
