We are excited to host world-renowned fly angler Jeff Currier at Fin & Fire on Saturday March 5th. Jeff will be in-store from 9 to 5 and conducting four presentations. All the presentations are 45-50 minutes long. There will be limited seating and some standing-room only space. Come early to grab a seat for any of the presentations you can't miss. There is no fee to attend. In between his very popular seminars, Jeff will work on and sell his incredible artwork during the day. This is a unique opportunity to meet and learn from one of our industries most engaging and experienced figures. As this is a Fin & Fire event, the taps will be flowing as usual and the Traeger will be working overtime.
Jeff's schedule on March 5th:
10am: Introduction to Saltwater Fishing
This is a full on introduction to saltwater fly fishing that will inspire the curious first timers to organize a trip and refresh the intermediate to advanced salt anglers no matter how much experience they have. In this show Jeff reviews equipment, shows you what to expect and also suggests where to go.
If you’re extremely experienced in saltwater fly fishing don’t worry, you won’t be bored. Jeff gets his points across with stunning photography. Much of this show covers the saltwaters of the USA from the striped bass estuaries of New England to the surf perch and halibut beaches of California. He also talks about the monster redfish of Louisiana and the flats of Florida where you can catch bonefish, tarpon and permit. And none of Jeff’s shows go without at least one teaser piece from an off the grid destination.
12pm: So You Want to be a World Traveling Fly Fisherman?
If you want to expand your horizons and travel far with your fly rod there’s a few things you need to know. And with over 30 years of fly fishing travel under his belt to more than 60 countries on six continents, there’s probably no one else better to hear from about fly fishing the world than Jeff Currier. In this presentation Jeff begins pointing out all the ins and outs that go into leaving the USA on a fly fishing trip.
After covering the basics, Jeff moves on to the travel itself. For instance, if you’ve never left the country before then there are places that might be better for you than others. Perhaps an English speaking nation close to the USA such as Canada, the Bahamas or Belize. If you’re an experienced traveler, then conceivably you might want to get a little crazy. Maybe the Amazon? Africa? Are you ready for a do-it-yourself trip? Are you mentally ready for delays?
There’s a ton of homework done before every successful international fly fishing trip. Join Jeff as he shares what he’s learned with amazing photos and stories from his decades of experience.
2pm: World's Best Trout Destinations
Jeff’s vast knowledge of fly fishing for trout is not limited to his home waters of the Yellowstone Country. His easy-going way of life, his being in the fly fishing business for more than 30 years and his connections with lodges and guides throughout the world have allowed him to travel.
Join Jeff as he takes you to some of the greatest trout fishing destinations on the planet. Pick up some of the valuable international trout techniques he’s learned along the way, enjoy the stories behind these distant trout and find out how you can find your way to any of these magnificent fishing destinations.
4pm: Streamer Tricks for More and Larger Trout
When Jeff arrived on the scene in Jackson Hole, Wyoming back in 1987 he was a dry fly fishing purist. He nymphed and tossed streamers on occasion but he spent most of his time at places like the Henry’s Fork targeting the best hatches. As Jeff made friends and found older mentors he picked up on the fact that they often caught bigger trout with streamers so he began learning the art of streamer fishing for himself.
It didn’t take long for Jeff to become proficient with the streamers and soon he was tweaking techniques. Some of his tricks worked so well that other anglers came to him with their questions – especially after he won the famous Jackson Hole One Fly with a streamer!
Join Jeff as he talks about the equipment he likes from rods to lines to picking the right fly, how to rig multiple flies, stripping speeds and overall methods.
Jeff's Bio:
Jeff Currier resides in Victor, Idaho where he bases his globe-trotting career in fly fishing. He is an active member of the R.L. Winston Rod Co Professional Advisory Team as well as Simms, Scientific Anglers, Fly Fishers International, Yeti and Bauer Reels. Jeff is also an “Ambassador” for Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures hosting exotic trips and exploring new destinations throughout the world. Jeff is a fly fishing lecturer and well known fish artist. He has taught the skills of fly fishing, guided throughout Wyoming, Idaho and Yellowstone National Park and escorted fly fishers on six continents. Jeff has fished in sixty-two countries and caught over 420 species of fish on the fly! Jeff’s articles, photographs and artwork have graced the pages of magazines, catalogs, brochures and books. He is the acclaimed author of Currier’s Quick and Easy Guide to Saltwater Fly Fishing and Currier’s Quick and Easy Guide to Warmwater Fly Fishing guide books. Jeff is also a well sought after expert for television, radio, podcasts and numerous fly fishing films. Jeff has won numerous fly casting competitions and the Jackson Hole One Fly. He led Team USA to its first ever top-ten finish in the World Flyfishing Championships in Jaca, Spain. During the competition Jeff managed to fool fish on every venue and placed third in the individual standings, becoming the first American ever to take home a medal in the thirty year history of the Championships. In June of 2017 Jeff did it again in the World Masters Fly Fishing Championships in Portugal then took it a step further bringing home the Silver Medal from South Africa in 2019. Jeff lectures throughout the United States and Canada on nearly every aspect of fly fishing. He demonstrates fly casting, teaches seminars on the basics to the advanced skills of fly fishing and presents many fly fishing destination programs ranging from his home waters to the most remote corners of the globe. Some of his shows take you to destinations you’ve never heard of and will leave you in awe that such creatures can be enticed to eat a fly! Jeff brings a sense of humor, enthusiasm, approachability and more than forty years of fly fishing wherever he goes.
