The skwala rs boot construction is top tier. The ankle support is outstanding. However, no matter how revolutionary the vibram tread design is marketed as, it simply did not get the job done on the river. Hate to say it too, as I love most everything skwala comes out with. But I spent almost $400 on a pair of RS boots, installed the grip studs and gave them to the lodge owner to keep after the first day of fishing. I was slipping in 6” of water just walking to enter the jet sled. The tread depth did not allow much of any bite from the grip studs and I’m just being brutally honest…these were some of the most slippery treads I’ve ever worn in the river. I consider myself an experienced/competent wader in some of BC’s most famous steelhead waters and I was sliding out of place during simple casts. I used a pair of loaner felt boots for remainder of trip and it was a night and day difference. Again, the quality of the boot construction and comfort are top notch. The vibram soles just don’t realistically cut it when it comes down to having reliable footing in most wading conditions.

I am a metal-detectorist with a love for water detecting. Needed a robust wading boot in conjunction with a SAR (search and rescue) drysuit. I use this combination after the ice melts on our Wisconsin lakes. These boots and drysuit make it possible to be in the icy cold water enjoying what I do, finding rings and other treasures.

I've only worn them inside the house so far. Ankle support appears superior. I anticipate a necessary break-in period. Toe box is roomy for those with wider feet, like me. Tread design is aggressive. I may start off wearing them without studs. Tread is deep, so much so that placing studs where the manufacturer indicates may cause them to not make contact with stream bed. Very attractive color and design.
