There are few people who have caught more tidewater salmon with a fly than Joe Sugura.  In this episode of Fin And Fire with Jeff Mishler, Joe and I share stories from our common past while trying to avoid breaking the one rule of tidewater salmon angling with a fly, and that is, that we don't talk about tidewater salmon angling with a fly. If you are curious about this mysterious fishery and its history, please join us.

About Jeff Mishler

Jeff Mishler is a fifth generation Oregonian who's life work is hard to quantify. Father, writer, photographer, television commercial director, environmentalist, video producer/distributor, website manager, hunter, angler and lifelong recreationist who lives a fly-by-the-seat-of-yourpants mantra. If he’s not in his office writing another essay or developing a show concept, he’s chasing mallards and pheasants with his lab Hailey, running his jet sled up a local river to a sweet steelhead run, setting up on a screaming bull elk with bow in hand or conspiring with his small circle of equally affected steelhead bums while downing healthy portions of really good Oregon beer.

Episode 40 | Modern Spey Line design can be attributed to a few open minded thinkers and Al Buhr is one of them.  His approach to describing the mechanics of the fly cast is rooted in the messages from his mentors.  Jim Green and Joan Wulff play a huge role in the ethos of Al Buhr.  And as he says in the Podcast, "I'm happy that I get to talk about my heroes."

Episode 39 | Scott O'Donnell is an industry name. His decades of experience guiding clients for trout and steelhead bring perspective to a career of commitment and sacrifice. It's hard work to create opportunities for clients on a daily basis. But the lifestyle has its rewards. In this episode of Fin and Fire With Jeff Mishler, I sit with Scott at my place on the Oregon Coast and we drink some whisky while sharing perspectives of how it use to be, and how it is today.  Get ready for a conversation that goes long into the night.
